Bikram Yoga For Weight Loss

Bikram Yoga is one of the newest trends in weight loss. Bikram yoga, also called hot yoga, is seen by many as yoga's answer to every ailment of the body and mind, as well as a solution for bodily injuries, obesity, and general pudginess. In fact, Bikram Yoga has become so popular that sometimes it is hard to tell fact from fiction. Some of the common claims of Bikram Yoga is that it flushes toxins and promotes weight loss.

What is bikram yoga?

Bikram Yoga is called hot yoga because those who practice it do so in a room heated to 105 degrees Fahrenheit with 40 percent humidity. Outside of a Louisiana swamp in the summer, it is pretty hard to find that kind of climate. In fact, many compare these yoga rooms to saunas. Because it is so hot, any kind of physical exertion, and especially the often difficult and grueling yoga poses, causes profuse sweating. The skin is the body's largest organ for elimination and by sweating tons of toxins literally flow right out of the body. That means that after a single 90 minute yoga session participants feel relaxed, stretched out, and awash in holistic well being.

Does bikram yoga burn calories?

Naturally, that much sweating brings with it a comparable reduction in weight, but stepping onto a scale right after a session will be misleading, because much of the weight lost is just water that your body will replenish. In reality, a session of Bikram Yoga is no more effective than 90 minutes doing any other aerobic activity. In fact, jogging for the same amount of time can easily burn more calories. This isn't to say that Bikram won't work perfectly fine in the long term for decreasing body mass, but to shed those pounds fast, run every day on top of the yoga classes.

Bikram yoga hell

Naturally, working out in 105 degree weather brings with it some concerns. Apace with the Bikram Yoga trend, doctors have seen a host of yoga related injuries. Obviously heat stroke and dehydration are a factor, as well as injuries from over exuberant stretching. The most common stretching injuries occur in the knees during deep knee bends. Also, if a person wants to see real results from yoga, then frequent attendance is not optional. Most people who see real results attend 5-6 times a week, and at minimum 10 times a month. This can eat up a lot of time. Aside from that, Bikram Yoga experts suggest bringing your own mat to classes and practicing the more difficult poses outside of class, which hints at an initial expense for gym time, mats, and training materials. Especially for the unhealthy, Bikram Yoga may simply be to intense.

Fast weight loss alternatives

One of the main things that Bikram Yoga accomplishes is the expulsion of toxins from the body. Although admirable, for someone focused on weight loss Bikram Yoga approaches the goal obliquely. Another option would be a colon cleansing agent coupled with a healthy diet and a regular exercise regimen. An effective colon cleanse jettison the material in the colon which creates the toxins Bikram Yoga sweats out while at the same time improving bodily health and encouraging weight loss. Some people see immediate changes in their waist line and weight as the colon cleansing flushes pounds of waste material out of their body and relieves bloating.
